This is Dot...

She is the new Boston.com "spokesdoodle". I'm not sure what is up with her hair.. is that some sort of Princess Leia do? She is here to introduce the new site design for Boston.com launching soon. I must say, she is juvenile and silly and I LOVE her. She has generated quite a buzz (well.. amongst us web types who pay more than 30 sec. worth of attention to such things). The whole demo is silly and ends with the phrase: we have to praise you like we should. I'm drawing a blank on what song that is from. Anyway, it reaks of being created by early 20-something hipsters.. and it works for me! On the other hand, a number of people who've seen it think it's really dumb.

An open call to Boston.com employees (ahem.. JP Butler??): please explain the various boston.com sites. So confusing! Boston.com is different than the Boston Globe site and then the A&E section looks different, sometimes you end up at digital mass which has another look and feel (but articles in the print edition of the Globe live there), and bostonworks.com is it's own site. Baffling! I like the new redesign, but it doesn't look like it addresses any of the above issues. And I know it must be a big money maker, but the big ad at the top: is it really necessary??-----

Hey there -

An amazing amount of cruft can accumulate over seven years, that's how you get the current boston.com site...

With the redesign, almost all your look'n'feel questions will go away. The Globe section will be seamlessly integrated with the rest of the experience. Ditto real estate, autos, A&E, etc.

With BostonWorks, we will still keep our own distinct look'n'feel and branding, at least for a little while.

I'm really interested to see what the redesign will do to the site traffic patterns; I can't wait to dig through the server logs...

I'll let Annika know that you like her doodle :-)

Cheers!
Jason

The song is Praise You by Fatboy Slim, and I remember it best from the Cruel Intentions soundtrack :)

And that is a CUTE icon girl. I like!

It's from that song... can't think of the name... video was directed by Spike Jonze and it featured those people dancing out front of a movie theatre or something. Some kind of remix song...

REAL

Everything has changed. Nothing has changed. I don't want to go through this again. I can't live without it. I'm sure I can handle it. I couldn't imagine it any other way.
And if none of this makes sense... well, you obviously aren't a Red Sox fan.
