Freckle Face

Say it loud, say it proud: I have freckles. I am always amazed that there are people who think freckles are not attractive. Growing up, I never really thought about them. They were just there, like my nose. Maybe because I grew up in an Irish family where there were freckles as far as the eye could see. Then I went to parochial school with alot of other Irish kids - more freckles as far as the eye could see. I remember vividly being 8 or 9 and watching the Brady Bunch rerun where Jan tries to get rid of her freckles with a lemon. I remember thinking: why would anyone do that? That is like trying to change your eye color (this would be in the days before color contacts, kids). The implication that freckles were bad went right over my head. After all, my mother always told me that freckles were beauty marks (thus I am a goddess!). I can't fathom why people don't like them. Once in a bar a guy walked up to me and said: you're doing really well with the fact that you have all those freckles. I was speechless, but the bubble over my head said: you're doing really well considering you have that huge jew-fro going halfway up to the ceiling. I have come to believe that freckle haters have some mental deficientcy and that isn't my problem.

However, after all this time.. I'm in fashion:

Freckles, a Look That's Finally Spot On?

The freckle's cultural moment began this past spring, when Lancome released one of Burton's latest creations, the $13.50 Freckle Crayon. Lancome sold 2,400 of them, almost its whole stock, in a matter of months. So now, after years of trying to rub, wash and magic-potion them off, women around America are painting freckles on.

Give me a friggin' break. I wish a great rain storm on all the previous freckle haters who are now painting them on because their in style. I hope they run down your face. Not to mention that you had to wait for a freckle crayon? You weren't smart enough to use a brown eyeliner?

Power to the freckled people!-----

ugh! People like that really shouldn't be parents. Kids need acceptance
and love for who they are. That poor girl is going to have a complex about
how she looks and she is probably cute as a button. Meanwhile I think red
hair is gorgeous and I wish I had it. I hope you told her that freckles
are beauty marks, you're proud to have them and that the daughter was
beautiful.

"a face without freckles, is like a sky without stars."

i really wish people would realize the beauty of freckles. one day, i was cashiering at my job. a young girl with red hair, pale skin and a face full of freckles came in with her mother. upon seeing me, a dark blond with a face also filled with freckles, the mother asked, "you have them too. how do you lighten your freckles? i have been trying to get rid of my daughter's for the longest time! and are you naturally a red head?"
i felt extremely offended and insulted. first, this lady more than hints that she hates freckles, and that i have "them" too-these ugly blemishes that can't be ridded of. what a bitch.

IVE HAD FRECKLES ALL MY LIFE. I AM CUBAN AND I WAS AN OUTCAST. EVERYONE WAS TAN OR WHITE. I LOVE THE BEACH AND WORK ON BOATS, MAKING MY FRECKLES DARKER AND MORE ABUNDANT. I HAVE FOUND THAT MOST PEOPLE ARE ACCEPTING, AND ACTUALLY FIND THEM ATTRACTIVE. FRECKLES ARE STARS THAT FELL FROM THE SKY ON TO OUR FACE, MAKING US MORE UNIQUE FROM THE MASSES. BLESSINGS IN DIGUISE.

Hey hi,
i blogged about this back in spring; funnily enough, it looks like the crayon [as i supposed back then] became a major spring flop. isn't it funny how all the world suddenly talked about the freckle crayon in second week of august? they sure launched a mighty pr campaign...got me laughing all over.
your weblog is cool, btw.
cheers,
mademoiselle a.

jr. and i had a LONG conversation about freckles yesterday....her face is FULL of them (i'm going to email a picture to you, to see) - and she has such a great attitude about them, so far.

she told me, "mom, you look at the models, and never see ANY with freckles, but when I get older, i don't want to cover them up!"

freckles, ROCK!

Woot! Yay freckles! I've always had a few, but as time moves onward they keep inviting their freckle-friends over to stay, so now I have quite an accumulation.

Freckles are very sexy I think. It is like nature's artwork on the human form, and how can that be anything less than beautiful?!
