Ticketmastergouger

Hi, Jody again with a fun little rant!

Ok, I desperately wanted Radiohead tickets. And I desperately tried to get them. Unfortunately, tickets were sold out in about 3 minutes, and I didn't get any. And now in addition to the generally recognized rants about TM, like that they charge fees to charge you fees, I now am seriously questioning how they operate. I mean, yeah, of course they are corrupt, but I had no clue just what level of corruption they operate on. It seems that in those three minutes of Radiohead ticket sales, about 3 fans got hold of tickets and the rest were snatched up by scalpers. I say this because the scalpers have hundreds of tickets for sale online and they are charging ridiculous prices. So I can't help but think that TM just hands tons of tickets over to the scalpers for a nice little profit. That's probably not a shock to anyone I suppose, but I'm naive and still remembering the day where a fan of a band could somehow get their hands on decent tickets without paying $300 over the ticket price.

So I'm proposing that John Ashcroft make use of that damn Patriot Act and start spying and investigating what the hell is going on. Because one day, Mr. Ashcroft is going to try to buy some tickets to see the Statler Brothers or Oakridge Boys, and he's going to experience the profound disappointment that I experienced when trying to purchase my Radiohead tickets.-----

Erin, are you suggesting that your $11 convenience fee wasn't convenient for you???

I try to buy tickets at the box office but it's not possible for a lot of shows.

Radiohead did a presale the day before, but I didn't know about it til that day and didn't have the code. The whole presale thing is new to me, I haven't been to a big concert in years.

Also, as for fan appreciation, many bands have had to take the matter into their own hands, setting aside tickets and doing special presales for their registered fans (usually related with a band website). My suggestion is to try this way to get tickets. It isn't full-proof, but it at least gives you a chance over *most* scalper types (the ones not registered as fans).

The band that has gone to the most extreme in this regard is Red Hot Chili Peppers, who require their fans to pay $25 and send in 2 photos, and in return they get an ID badge that they have to show at concerts to use the special "fan" tickets.

I recently bought tickets for Liz Phair out here in So. Cal. at the House of Blues, and the price per ticket was only $16, while the TM/Facility fees added up to $11 per ticket. It is incredibly ridiculous. I understand that TM can't work for free, but when the Fees are more than 2/3rds the Face Value of the ticket something is very wrong.

Everything has changed. Nothing has changed. I don't want to go through this again. I can't live without it. I'm sure I can handle it. I couldn't imagine it any other way.
And if none of this makes sense... well, you obviously aren't a Red Sox fan.
