Cut the Crap!

Recently I've noticed a new trend of pseudo spammers who leave comments that sort of seem related to the post, but really are just a way to link to cheesy online stores: cut it out! Your comments will just be deleted, your IP banned and no one reading blogs has time to click on your lame links!-----

Having the same problem. It sucks. But at least now I know leaving comments will increase my Google standing. As if I don't get enough hits from MILF searches already. (Around 125 a day for that word alone.)

Oh, wait until you get the Lolita spam, ugh!

But they don't really care if anybody actually reads their posts. What they're trying to do is build up their Google ratings because Google uses links to determine a page's weight but it can't differentiate between a crap link and a real link. This is why you'll often see spam links attached to old posts - the spammers use Google to find Weblogs that allow comments, then start posting away. In fact, at first they do it by hand, then, if they notice the links stick (i.e, you don't remove them right away), they set some automated spambots loose.

In a word: Grrr! Unfortunately, the Lolita guy is using a range of IP numbers so, at least in Movable Type, you have to ban each one. You can read more at

Everything has changed. Nothing has changed. I don't want to go through this again. I can't live without it. I'm sure I can handle it. I couldn't imagine it any other way.
And if none of this makes sense... well, you obviously aren't a Red Sox fan.
