Just Thinking..

If we are so much safer now that Saddam has been captured, why is it that we increased our threat level today due to increased volume of threats that could rival or exceed the attacks of 9/11?

Do I need to get my terrorism supply kit back out?

I'm Prepared!

Ok, in all seriousness, I'm having a little anxiety after listening to a recording of the Howard Stern show from 9/11 today (link found at PaulKatcher.com). It's sort of like reliving the day - very, very eiry (remember when we didn't know where all the planes were?) - yet, like a car crash on the highway, you can't turn away. I couldn't turn it off. It was only slightly less tramatic the second time around.
So everyone be safe!-----

I just remembered, you and I aren't supposed to talk politics, right? We'll stick to Syracuse sports!

And you deftly avoided my original question ;-)

Well... actually, the airplane threat mentioned is one that originates from foreign countries flying into the United States. Clearly the screeners here in America couldn't prevent that eventuality :-)

CJ - Maybe if you turned off Fox News long enough to have an original thought you would realize that
Osama has always been a direct and imminent threat where Saddam has been contained for 12 years.

The money we have spent in Iraq would have been better spent (at this time) finding Osama and making our ports and airports safer. Do you realize that airplanes were specifically mentioned as part of increased terror level? Do you remember that last May we laid off 6000 airport security screeners across the country to save money. Do you know that at Logan Airport (where 2 of the 9/11 planes originated) there are 250 open airport screener jobs open because there has been a hiring freeze on them since May? We need to get our priorities straight.

So you don't believe we can be safer in the more general sense... but also need to raise the threat level in this more specific sense?

Or let it put it to you this way... would you believe America is safer if we captured Osama bin Laden and each of his top lieutenants tomorrow?

Of course you would. As well you should.

Now, let's say the capture of Osama led some of his zealots to plan major attacks for revenge and that led to a change in the terror level. Would you still say America is not safer with the capture of Osama and all his top lieutenants?

That's how illogical your argument is.

There is something frightfully wrong with your emergency kit.

You have the peanut butter...

...you've forgotten the Hershey bar with almonds.

Everything has changed. Nothing has changed. I don't want to go through this again. I can't live without it. I'm sure I can handle it. I couldn't imagine it any other way.
