I'll Take Compliments from Wherever They Come From..

When I moved a few months ago, I joined a new gym and commenced taking my favorite class, Step, with a whole new cohort of people*. Tonight, at the end of class a woman in my class came right up to me and said: you look fantastic, you must have lost 20 lbs. since you started here. In my head I'm thinking: you must have me confused with someone else because since I moved here I've lost -3lbs. (for those of you who are algebra challenged, minusing a negative is a plus. Yeah, I've gained 3lbs.) But then I decided I should just take a compliment gracefully. I chose to believe that I look like someone who has lost 20lbs. even though I know I haven't! And if someone wants to be very nice and go out of their way to compliment me, I'm takin' it! I'm lookin' good, dammit! All the mirrors in the world must be fat mirrors!
But it gets even better. Hearing this conversation, a guy in the class approaches us to tell me that I'm really, really good at Step. He asks me if I've only been doing Step since I joined this gym. I reply simply that I had done it a few times at my previous gym (yeah... try 2 - 3 times a week since Step came on the aerobic scene). But again, I'm taking the compliments from where they are coming. If he wants to believe I'm a Step wunderkind.. who am I to let him down?
I can see my tombstone now:

Amy
she was good at step and optical illusions relating to her weight

* for those non-gym go-ers. At the gym, if you take the same class every week you will notice that you see the same people in the class almost all the time.-----

It is nice to receive compliments. By the way, you write 25 pounds lighter! : )

REAL

Everything has changed. Nothing has changed. I don't want to go through this again. I can't live without it. I'm sure I can handle it. I couldn't imagine it any other way.
And if none of this makes sense... well, you obviously aren't a Red Sox fan.
