I'm so excited about tv this week. It's not a positive development.-----

Tag - I'm it!

Sorry, J-Mo for being so slow..

01. Total volume of music files on my computer?

* according to iTunes, I have 3933. But this is what happens when one aquires a 20gb mp3 player and burns over 200 cd's.

02. The last CD I bought was?

* U2 - How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb. And I think I've listened to it once because I just haven't gotten around to burning it and I can't do something as old fashioned as play it as an actual cd!

03. Song playing right now:

* til tuesday - you know the rest. A song so repetitive it's actually soothing, yet disturbing.

04. Five songs I listen to a lot or that mean a lot to me (in no particular order):

* tangerine - led zep (duh!)
* scottish windows - buffalo tom
* 100 years - five for fighting
* bob dylan's dream - bob dylan
* back in black - ac/dc

of course, this list could potentially be different on any given day.-----

People Will Read Again!

- that's a line from Vanilla Sky that I always liked.

Last week I was disheartened to read in the NYT that:

fewer than half of Americans over 18 now read novels, short stories, plays or poetry; that the consumer pool for books of all kinds has diminished; and that the pace at which the nation is losing readers, especially young readers, is quickening. In addition it finds that the downward trend holds in virtually all demographic areas.

Well, you - the internet savvy bunch that you are - can read (and discuss) literature online thanks to the New York Times: The Great Summer Read.

Starting today you can begin The Great Gatsby (excellent!), on 7/26 Like Water for Chocolate (delicious!), on 8/9 Breakfast at Tiffany's (outstanding!) and on 8/23 The Color of Water (I've never read this, but here is my big chance).-----

It Will Be Mine

oh, yes, it will be mine.

mini iPod

before all you techno types start emailing me telling me for $50 more I could have the 15GB version: I KNOW. But it's just not as cute.. I mean look at that. It's tiny and adorable - half the size/weight of the regular one. Aesthetics count!

Now that I finally have come to my big decision, I the mini is the Cabbage Patch Kid of the 00's. You can't just buy one. There aren't enough to meet supply. This only reinforces my decision - now I must have one. Amazon estimates 4 - 6 weeks, Apple.com 3 - 5 weeks. Woe is me!

I really thought I wanted silver, but look at the blue... decisions, decisions.

Everybody's Talkin' All This Stuff About...

Steve Almond.. a fantabulous author.

I have noticed Bookslut's tendency to mention him (see here and here and here, amongst others, I'm sure).
And just recently Escribitionist had some things to say. And then there was my horribly written, silly post, that I refuse to edit because I love to expose my bad writing habits and juvenile thoughts, about seeing his book reading (yup, I've got an autographed copy of My Life in Heavy Metal in hard cover.. drool all you want).

So I thought to myself: perhaps there are more people blogging on about Steve, so I did some googling.. here are some of the results:

> Storyglossia
> Pursed Lips
> Random Notes
> Maud Newton
> What I'm Reading

Stuff by Steve:
> his site
> Roadog: My Journey Through A Semi-Literate Nation
(in 1,000 words or less)

> How to go on a nationwide book tour and not get laid
> Writing sex
> Say you want a resolution?
> Cold Snapped
> Only murderers cheer for death
> Anthony's Girl-----

I Ask You:

what could be cooler than Bruce Springsteen playing Fenway Park?

Red Sox ask city to allow rock concerts at Fenway

I'm sure it will be killed because the neighbors will complain about the noise.. I don't mind because it's Bruce. But if they wanted to put NSync in there, I would definetely be on the neighbors side. But it's Bruce!-----

Hammer of the Gods

This weekend I watched this:

led zep

perhaps the greatest thing to ever come out on DVD. I usually don't like concert videos (I'd rather be there and get aggitated sitting on the couch just watching), but this transfixed me. It is so brilliant you almost want to look away for fear it will hurt your eyes. The drum solo during Moby Dick worth the price of admitance alone. John Paul Jones as never sounded better. I don't think I need to say anything about Jimmy Page or Robert Plant (well, ok.. they are Rock Gods!) Run, don't walk, to the store to pick this up..

** yeah, I changed the title of this entry. This one is just better and more fitting..-----

New Reading Material...

I'm sure I will appall my few conservative readers (and I know who you are) when I tell you that I have been waiting with bated breath for this book to get published on May 20:

clinton wars

which will give me a few weeks to get through it before this one comes out:

hillary

Right now I'm reading:
made in texas
because I desperately need to understand how something this stupid and narrow minded got to where he is - president select.

Ooo.. gotta go, time for Will & Grace. If only Jack or Will would have some gay sex on tv just to piss off Rick Santorum and the bushman.. ha!-----

Edit Me

Because of nanoedmo, I've been reminded of my nanowrimo experience and that I should do something with all that work. I started this weekend. With great dread I opened the file containing my novel and began reading. It wasn't as bad as I thought.. sure I babbled on and on in parts and there are characters that aren't fully flushed out and sort of just drop out of the story with no resolution, and then there is the fact that I just stopped at 50,000 words even though the story wasn't really complete. But all in all I think it's a good start. I've made an outline of how it currently flows and I'm going to work on an outline of how it work better and go from there. Phew... it's overwhelming just thinking about. I guess I'll take it sentence by sentence.-----

The Kick in the Ass I Need is Coming

nanoedmo: National Novel Editing Month. Related to the National Novel Writing Month (nanowrimo)that I took place in last November. The site doesn't seem to be fully operational just yet... but I think I'll take this as a sign I should be getting it together.-----

REAL

Everything has changed. Nothing has changed. I don't want to go through this again. I can't live without it. I'm sure I can handle it. I couldn't imagine it any other way.
And if none of this makes sense... well, you obviously aren't a Red Sox fan.
